Top 10: Best Posters of the 2007 (5-1)

Date:

Yesterday we saw a Daniel Clowes' illustration, a pair of tattooed hands, a horses' head, some crafty font arrangement and a bible. Today's picks are more of a “face friendly” bunch. Among those that were cut from our top ten list and are worthy of a mention were Jim Carrey's scribbled face image for Number 23, Kevin Costner's splitting image in Mr.Brooks, the telling a story in one image rendering for Breach, the haunting poster for No Country for Old Men and Lionsgate's series of teaser and theatrical posters for Hostel II.

5. The Tracey Fragments

Distributor: (Canadian Distributor) Alliance Atlantis
Tagline: Something's Missing
Comments: Playing with the concept of the film (head on over here if you have no clue what I'm talking about): the film is “fragmented”, the film's character is in pieces and so is this picture rendition.

4. Zodiac

Distributor: Paramount  Pictures
Tagline: There's More Than One Way to Lose Your Life to a Killer
Comments: The Golden Gate bridge has a reputation for being a place where one ends their life – but as this film reminded us there was a freak on the loose way back when. The whole fog notion – of not knowing what is on the other side relays that non-comforting goose bump feeling.

3. Michael Clayton

Distributor: Warner Bros.
Tagline: The Truth Can Be Trusted
Comments: Call this one the anti-poster. How could they blur out their top billing star Mr. George Clooney? Safe to say this isn’t your typical  studio film and therefore it almost makes sense that they are willing to gamble  with the image. If you ask me…it paid off

2. Black Snake Moan

Distributor: Paramount Vantage
Tagline: Everything is Hotter in the South
Comments:
A hot, trashy, racy, S&M themed comic-book cover featuring chains, hot pants and a submissive Christina Ricci. Yummy

1. Grindhouse

Distributor: Dimension Films
Tagline: Two Great Movies for the Price of One!
Comments:
A poster one sheet that honors the poster one sheet can't go any higher in my books than position number one. The critically successful,  box office disappointment obviously didn't get it wrong with the poster campaign – literally all 4 posters (including separate sheets for Planet Terror and Death Proof) merit a spot in our top ten – but we wanted to be fair and give a chance to other titles. Below you have another example:
