Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2008: #83 Valkyrie

Date:

Valkyrie

#83.Valkyrie

Director/Writer
: Bryan Singer
Producers: Singer, Gilbert Adler (Superman Returns), Christopher McQuarrie (writer of The Way of the Gun),
Distributor: MGM

The Gist: Written by Chris McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander, this is set in WWII based on the true story of the daring German officers’ plot to assassinate Hitler in 1944. Tom Cruise plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, the aristocratic German officer who led the heroic attempt to bring down the Nazi regime and end the war by planting a bomb in Hitler’s bunker.

Fact: This is a second time in Singer’s fimography where he has touched upon Nazism. 1998’s Apt Pupil was the other.

See It: Perhaps a break from the superhero genre is just the diversion that Singer needs at least to reposition himself for the future decade ahead.

Release Date/Status?: MGM’s tentpole film for the summer was shifted forward into the fall. It receives an October 3rd bow.
