Rachel Weisz, fresh off of winning an Oscar, starring in The Fountain, and having Darren Aronofsky’s baby, has signed on to star in The Brothers Bloom, an indie adventure to be written and directed by Brick layer Rian Johnson.

The film is about two brothers who are considered the world’s best con artists. The younger brother decides he wants to quit his life of crime, but he is persuaded to do one last job: ripping off a millionaire. Now call me crazy, but does this not sound like a modernized replica of Terry Gilliam’s The Brothers Grimm. Two con artists brothers, ripping off a millionaire (or in Grimm, a town). They go on an adventure. The younger brother is slightly more ethical than the older brother. The films almost have an identical title. Is anyone else suspicious of this?

Credit Weisz though for really emerging out of The Mummy franchise and into a full-blown box office and art house star. First, she won an Oscar for The Constant Gardener. Then she starred and mothered Aronofsky’s baby and cinematic baby (which was evidently booed at some foreign festival). Weisz has a whole slate of films in development (check out her page), but among the most notable, Wong Kar-wai’s My Blueberry Nights, Phillip Noyce’s Dirt Music, and Constantine 2, which may be highly anticipated by people somewhere.
