You and I: What Happened to Roland Joffe?

The last two films have represented an odd choice in directing choices for two-time Oscar nominated for Best Director Roland Joffe. With a career path that includes The Killing Fields and The Mission, Joffe with the backing of Russian production company RAMCO has gone into fair that is aimed at the younger demographics.

The last two films have represented an odd choice in directing choices for two-time Oscar nominated for Best Director Roland Joffe. With a career path that includes The Killing
Fields
and The Mission, Joffe with the backing of Russian production company RAMCO has gone into fair that is aimed at the younger demographics. Last year we saw the release of the torture porn categorized Captivity (featuring Elisha Cuthbert) and has followed-up with a tale of falling in love in the heart of Russia that will attract that same demo.

Formerly titled “Finding t.A.T.u”, Joffe’s latest is adapted from the novel
“t.A.T.u come back” by Russian writer A. Mitrofanov. Set
against a background of music, Internet chatrooms and hedonistic
Russian nightlife, it’s the story of a lonely American teenager in
Moscow (Mischa Barton) who becomes friends with a local girl (Shantel Vansanten) over their shared
obsession with pop band t.A.T.u.

Barton traveled down from her home in Paris for promotional duties and the market premiere for You and I in Cannes, but oddly enough, the busy actress (who has about six projects in different stages of delayed release) pulled out of some press events scheduled in London shortly after the festival.

I’ve included the artwork that was used to promote the picture at Cannes, and found a trailer filled with horrible accents, unfriendly vodka drinkers, and a pop duet’s bad attempt at keeping the flame of their careers still lit by using a film to promote their latest offerings.
