Zhang Yimou’s Latest Coming in Two Parts

Date:

It appears that after a stretch of films (Hero, House of Flying Daggers and Curse of the Golden Flower) that reached outwards, towards international audiences, Zhang Yimou might be looking a little “inwards”. After working for last year’s Olympics opening and choreographing the 60th anniversary of the Communist Party’s accession to power, we can pretty much claim that the 5th generation filmmaker is working on film projects with mainland audiences in mind.

Yimou is said to be working on a film divided into two parts. Actors Sun Honglei, Ni Dahong, Xiao Shenyang and Wang Xiaohua will join the one part thriller and one part comedy project. Titled Amazing Tales — Three Guns, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some lineage to in-the-works-projects I reported on last month

Variety reports that lensing is set to start in Gansu province in June with a view to a release at Chinese New Year.
