It's only at the funding stages, but Alain Resnais looks set to adapt another project with many of the same folk who were responsible for his critically well-received 2009 Cannes entry Wild Grass. With Wild Grass, the filmmaker received a new surge of popularity, and confidence in adapting from other sources - he'll adapt again, but instead of a book, it'll be a stage play.

I'd focus on Maren Ade's Everyone Else (Kent Jones wrote an essay in this month's Film Comment about this German film and comparable on-screen relationships citing Cassavetes and Bergman examples), Zhao Dayong's three hour documentary film (Ghost Town) about how China's Cultural Revolution didn't benefit everyone and (see pic) Samuel Maoz's circa 1982 film (Lebanon) which will screen at Venice, TIFF and at the Lincoln Center - not bad for a first time filmmaker!

It was just the other day that I was flipping thru the last edition of Film Comment, checking out their annual Cannes coverage roundup and I was semi-surprised to see Alain Resnais' Les Herbes Folles, or what will be affectionally known as Wild Grass here in the U.S

Starting off the day with QT and his Basterds roster, followed by Nymph from Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, checking out a new pic from Axelle Ropert (La Famille Wolberg) and closing the day and practicing my German with the advance screening of Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon.

With only Alain Resnais’ Les Herbes Folles and Bruno Dumont's Hadewijch as possible upset win scenario's, Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet was the logical winner for France’s Louis Delluc prize of best French film of the year.
