Hoffman and Cruise develop a competition for attention over the course of the film - at least in Cruise’s mind – and he seems hell bent on preventing Hoffman’s theft of the picture. But it’s a hopeless task. Hoffman’s fixation with the classic “Who’s on First?” comedy routine is mirrored by Cruise’s increasing frustration with Raymond’s periodic hissy fits. The result is some unfortunate scenery chewing by Cruise, which in turn makes Hoffman’s baffling eccentricities seem noble and oddly heroic.

The collective, made up of six Aussies and one American, hit a high point this past Sunday when Jacki Weaver, star of Blue-Tongue member David Michod’s Animal Kingdom, was among the nominees for Best Actress at the Oscars. Formed by seasoned stuntman Nash Edgerton, his actor brother Joel, and Kieran Darcy Smith, Blue-Tongue began as a group of friends who could turn to each other for guidance and inspiration in all their various film projects. It seems to be working.

Despite the crazy mount of sales that took place, this pikc-up acts as a reminder that not all Sundance Film Festival titles were picked up before Day 11. One such title, the U.S Dramatic Competition selected Higher Ground has found a home with adult cinephile audience specialist Sony Pictures Classics -- a great fit for a film that I think many would agree was inoffensive, but far from tone-deaf as Vera Farmiga managed to give this decades-spanning tale an authentic charm that challenges notions of faith and religion in a manner that is far from Hallmark Card-ish.
