Former IONCINEMA.com writer Justin Ambrosino takes the 2009 LA Shorts Fest award for "Best of the Fest" for The 8th Samurai. This also qualifies his to be eligible for Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Academy Award consideration. Way to go Justin!
The Blacklist (a list of favorite unproduced screenplays making the rounds in Hollywood created by Franklin Leonard) acts as a good indicator of the best original ideas to come out of agents/rep offices and to come out of an industry which is too dependent on sequels, prequels and remakes. So far, we are past the midway point of 2009 and I was curious to update the 2007 list and see, mostly what went into production and which of the top tier scripts were greenlite.

The Day the Earth Stood Still came at a time when North America’s psyche was shaken by the threat of communist infiltration, Nuclear War and the beginnings of an Arms race, and the film does a beautiful job of expressing the fears of an entire nation with its cautionary message.
