Glad the weekend is here. Here are eight and 1/2 news items that we didn't have enough time to cover but are worth mentioning here for August 21st.

Tuesday August 11th sees some Euro titles worth renting out (Katyn, London to Brighton and Apres Lui), a Palme D'or winner worth buying (The Class) and an American indie film starring Zach Galifianakis as a life-threatening menace that was critically panned but in my books: is an oddity worth seeing.

When you take this idea based on a dream and then work for three years of your life on a film and strive to do something that is original or different it may be based on the problem that, with some people, it is their culture that is restrained and if you do something surreal - you draw comparisons with Charlie Kaufman.

I wrote the script for Paul Giamatti. Luckily, I won a screenplay competition at the Nantucket Film Festival in 2006 and by a strange coincidence meet Paul in person, who was there to present an award to Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor. I told him about the dream. He got intrigued. Few days later he read the script and accepted the role. This never happens. It was beginner’s luck.
