Ellison’s work, like that of Philip K. Dick and Kurt Vonnegut, was once marginalized as science fiction; but now his hugely popular writings (nearly 2000 published stories and some of the best episodes of "Outer Limits" and "Star Trek") has defined its own genre. Ellison's larger-than-life personality is legendary. “ In this hilarious portrait, Ellison’s fecund imagination is matched by his nearly limitless supply of outrage.
In the film, Ellison is interviewed in his Hollywood Hills home (“The Lost Aztec Temple of Mars”), with his 5th wife, expounding wittily on the stupidity of humankind, especially those of us associated with movie studios and publishing, not to mention Republicans and his legion of loyal fans (“wimps, twinks, flakes, and oddballs”). His childhood in Cleveland (“I was shorter than the smallest girl”), his legal tribulations, and his friendship with Robin Williams (“He’s like a skin graft on a leper” says Williams) all come into play. With an original score by legendary songwriter/guitarist Richard Thompson.
