Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2012: #11. Terrence Malick’s Voyage of Time

Expecting this docu essay to be reminiscent of such canvases as Koyaanisqatsi, Microcosmos, Powaqqatsi and Baraka, we expect this to not only reveal some of the larger in scope ideas Malick has been toying with for Tree of Life, and we’ll be pleasantly surprised if Voyage comes across as more than just a companion piece. Employing several formats (including IMAX) this features the work from renowned natural history photographer Peter Parks and “Planet Earth” cinematographer Paul Atkins. Plus we’ve taken a liking to Pitt’s narration voice in PBS’ e² series.

#11. Voyage of Time

Director: Terrence Malick
Producers: The mega production team includes: Dede Gardner, Nicolas Gonda, Sarah Green, Brad Pitt, Bill Pohlad, Andreas Roald and Donald Rosenfeld
Distributor: Rights Available

The Gist: This is an examination of the birth and death of the universe...(more)

Cast: At this point we’ve got no clue if Pitt, Penn, Chastain or the children used in Tree of Life will make it into this picture, but the narration is provided by Pitt and Emma Thompson.

List Worthy Reasons…: Expecting this docu essay to be reminiscent of such canvases as Koyaanisqatsi, Microcosmos, Powaqqatsi and Baraka, we expect this to not only reveal some of the larger in scope ideas Malick has been toying with for Tree of Life, and we’ll be pleasantly surprised if Voyage comes across as more than just a companion piece. Employing several formats (including IMAX) this features the work from renowned natural history photographer Peter Parks and “Planet Earth” cinematographer Paul Atkins. Plus we’ve taken a liking to Pitt’s narration voice in PBS’ series.

Release Date/Status?: Filming of the docu essay was simultaneously shot with Tree of Life, and new footage was added post Tree so this should be good to go in 2012 and would make a great double billing at a festival like Cannes with a certain other title that ranks higher up on this list. With some IMAX shot sequences we imagine that only a distributor with long term strategy will want to take on the project.
