25 Alternative 2011 TIFF Picks: Michael Glawogger’s Whore’s Glory

Date:

#24. Whore’s Glory

Director: Michael Glawoger

BuzzNeed cheering up? Then you’ll want to avoid Michael Glawogger’s unflinching camera eye. Best know for 2005’s Workingman’s Death, the Austrian docu filmmaker documents unapologetic ugliness in the human experience — but could there be more to the matter than this? The Venice Film Festival selected (Horizons section) is the third part in the globalization trilogy.

The Gist: Prostitution: three countries, three languages, three religions (Thailand, Bangladesh, and Mexico). Women as a commodity. In a nutshell TIFF’s Cameron Bailey says it paints an indelible portrait of people living beyond the limits of polite society but within the bounds of what’s human.
