Cannes 2010’s Top 10 New Faces: Introducing Monia Chokri

Date:

#3. Monia Chokri

What a way to begin a long film career. Bang Bang…this baby shot me down. I’m referring to actress Monia Chokri who had the great fortune of being sprinkled with gold dust, offered the Jeanne Moreau with touches of Jackie O role in Xavier Dolan’s stylized sophomore feature. Her character – an eccentric highly articulated femme fatale is easily the film’s more interesting character – and now Chokri is on her way to a very long and prosperous career on the local Quebecois scene with possibilities of moving onto the market in France. Heartbeats will be shown stateside this year and this will have a long film festival life that Dolan’s debut film had.
