Saturday Night Live funnyman Bill Hader made the gradual move into feature films (his best work might be 2014’s The Skeleton Twins) and other television projects such as bits on Documentary Now! bits as some of his best work) and television namely creating the HBO show Barry with him directing 18 episodes. Known for his humor that can deconstruct guilt, loneliness, regret, or desire, he know moves behind the director’s chair for his debut. Following the conclusion of Barry, Hader developed the project with longtime creative collaborator Duffy Boudreau. It took some time to get financing but a couple of years later MRC dropped some coin. Production began in Los Angeles in April, and they closed up shop in early June.
Written by Duffy Boudreau and Hader, this follows a divorced dad who grows suspicious that his ex-wife is secretly dating a mysterious man who is having a strange influence on their children.
Hader and Linda Cardellini topline this two-hander. Lilou Lang and Lorelei Olivia Mote portray the protagonist’s daughters.
Hanarply’s Robert Graf and Hader produced the project. He re-teamed with Cinematographer Carl Herse and the Production Designer here is Cara Brower (2021’s Candyman).
Production took place back in April on this horror genre film, so they’ll be likely be focusing in on a Midnight section showcase at either Sundance or SXSW next year.
