Cannes 2013: Jarmusch’s “Only Lovers Left Alive” Among Five Last Minute Additions

Date:

Confirming some last minute additions to this year’s lineup, Cannes officials announced some exciting new titles, including (which we predicted) Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive, headlining Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as impassioned vampires. Also as predicted, Claude Lanzman’s latest Holocaust documentary Le Dernier De Injustes gets an Out of Competition slot, while three titles complete the Un Certain Regard’s lineup.

An intriguing debut (and under the radar addition) from German director Katrin Gebbe, Tore Tanzt, explores a young man’s dangerous relationship with a religious group known as The Jesus Freaks, while Wakolda (read our predictions piece here) a Josef Mengele inspired tale from Argentian director Luciz Puenzo and My Sweet Pepperland (formerly titled Aga – as listed here) from Hiner Saleem, which concerns a police commissioner’s reassignment to a lawless territory on the borders of Turkey, Iraq, and Iran, also will be part of the Un Certain Regard lineup.

Competition:
Only Lovers Left Alive – Dir. Jim Jarmusch

Out of Competition:
Le Dernier Des Injustes – Dir. Claude Lanzmann

Un Certain Regard:
My Sweet Pepperland – Dir. Hiner Saleem
Tore Tanzt – Dir. Katrin Gebbe
Wakolda – Dir. Lucia Puenzo
