Interview: Todd Solondz (Dark Horse)

Date:

The latest film from director Todd Solondz is Dark Horse, concerning a mid-thirties manchild who can’t seem to find his way out of his parents’ home. His pursuit of a morose, uninterested woman cause significant changes in his life and leads to psychic discord in how he refuses to face his reality. Not unlike previous efforts by Todd Solondz, this feature seems simplistic in its scope until you quickly realize that Solondz has created a complex portrait of a man that’s avoided responsibility his whole life.

A day after its North American Premiere last September in Toronto, we sat down with Solondz to talk about the film, where the director speaks of his basic approach to writing his screenplays and how he believes cinema can affect an audience. Dark Horse gets released in theaters Friday, June 8th.
