With drug cartel type narratives being all the rage right now, it was only a question of time that the Mark Boal penned screenplay that originally had Kathryn Bigelow on board to direct would find a front runner on the director wishlist. It’s official. A Most Violent Year‘s J.C. Chandor has been confirmed as that person. Variety reports that the director will lense the Triple Frontier. Now we wait as Paramount continues to cycle thru A level players with Will Smith as a possibility.
Gist: Scripted by Mark Boal, this is a high-stakes ensemble is set in the notorious border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil where the Igazu and Parana rivers converge — making “la triple frontera” difficult to monitor and a haven for organized crime.
Worth Noting: Chandor has been working at a film per year pace with Margin Call being quickly followed by All is Lost, A Most Violent Year and the dropped Deepwater Horizon. A Liar’s Ball would likely be his next project.
Do We Care?: We’re just imagining what a Chandor and possibly (A Most Violent Year dp) Bradford Young could do for this thriller might be in the same league as what Denis Villeneuve and Roger Deakins did for Sicario.
