Father Figure: Joel Edgerton is Patriarch in Trey Edwards Shults’ “It Comes At Night”

Date:

Deadline reports that recent Jeff Nichols’ muse Joel Edgerton will topline Trey Edwards Shults‘ It Comes At Night, the psychological horror thriller that the A24 folks backed a little more than a year ago. David Kaplan joins Krisha producers Justin R. Chan, Chase Joliet and Wilson Smith to produce the project. No production date has been set, but we imagine this will begin lensing this summer.

Gist: This is about a father who will stop at nothing to protect his wife and son from a malevolent, mysterious presence terrorizing them right outside their doorstep.

Worth Noting: Shults must have a great bookshelf weights…he landed both the SXSW Grand Jury Award and Audience Award, and added the Indie Spirit John Cassavetes Award.

Do We Care?: Shults shot out of the gates with a debut harkening back to the “film titular performance and its similarities to Gena Rowland’s famed unraveling in the arduous A Woman Under the Influence (1974),” this is a sophomore project we’ve been eagerly awaiting and can look forward to somewhere in 2017.
