Sheffield Doc/Fest Scheduled to Start Shuffling June 8th

Prior to the docu-world staking out Maryland for the upcoming edition of the Silverdocs, we now begin to look towards Europe for the next series of major doc-related film fests. Sheffield Doc/Fest, which runs from Wednesday June 8th to Sunday June 12th has a solid collection of best docs films so far in 2011, with much of the lineup being similar to this year's Hot Docs, even leading off on opening night with Morgan Spurlock's POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold as the Canadian fest did earlier this year.

Easter weekend's selections are admittedly wafer thin, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't partake in any blessed offerings. Why there's a trinity of films that should appeal to a mass audience. London based Celsius (an indie financier) comes to Cannes with a small but determined line-up and they officially give the Cannes market a shot to the arm with the market screening for Freakonomics: which brings together the talents of documentarian filmmakers Alex Gibney, Morgan Spurlock, Eugene Jarecki, Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing.

Sundance Film Festival 2008: Spectrum Lineup

The highly anticipated documentary film from Morgan Spurlock (that's him above on the camel) gets featured in doc section - after taking on McD's this time out he does what the U.S president has failed to do: actually try and find Bin Laden. Another film that will generate smiles is Stephen Walker's YOUNG@HEART - imagine Coldplay sung by your grandma... Sony Pictures Classics picked up those rights a while back. Stacy Peralta goes from extreme sports back ground (Riding Giants) to looking an the gang wars between the blue and red teams in California.
