Indomina Releasing Capture ‘Bodyguards and Assassins’

Indomina Releasing have nabbed the crown jewel of their recent wave of acquisitions landing a Hong Kong film that was the winner of 8 awards including Best Film and Best Director at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards (where it also received the most number of nominations in the event's history). Teddy Chen's Bodyguards and Assassins will get a release sometime next year.

Girl Power: Debra Granik, Lena Dunham and Cholodenko Lead 20th Gotham Award Noms

An ode to last year's big winner Kathryn Bigelow, the 20th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards were announced this afternoon and Debra Granik’s backwoods drama “Winter’s Bone” leads all the nominations with a total of three, while Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture) and Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) each end up with a pair of noms reminding us that there is some definite indiegrrrl power rising to the occasion this year.

After having seen Ceremony (here is video coverage), my thoughts were that "even if topliners Michael Angarano and Uma Thurman don't command strong box office indie numbers, there is a genuine likability factor that the top 6 distributors would be dumb to pass up."

Hubert Bals Fund: Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio and 23 Others Receive Grants

This year's Palme d'or winner (Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives) is a glowing example of exact purpose that the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam serves: supporting national cinemas and filmmakers through various stages of production.
