No Longer a Dream, Corbiau Brings Unfinished Orson Welles Project to Life

After a mention that an unproduced Kubrick project was going to see the light of day, another filmmaking legend might be making a comeback from the dead. After a mostly dormant film career over the past two decades, Gérard Corbiau, best known for 1994's Farinelli, is according to Production Weekly, going to direct Susan Sarandon, Martin Sheen & Cliff Curtis in The Dreamers (expect a title change) - which is according to recent legend, Orson Welles' unfinished last project.

Un Certain Regard: Kerrigan, Muntean and 102 Year-Old Manoel de Oliveira

I'm not sure where I was with my Cannes predictions (50 percent sounds about right), but I'm most glad about the predix that pan out on actual titles that I look forward in seeing - e.g. Lodge Kerrigan's French-produced next feature. I also got my predictions right on Radu Muntean's Tuesday, After Christmas and I had reported on David Verbeek's showing up in Cannes with R U There.

In Depth Look: Un Certain Regard’s Godard, Hong Sang-soo, Dolan, Schmitz, Fund & Loza and Vega Bros.

The latest from Oliver Schmitz, who contributed to Paris, Je T'aime. For the time being, info is sparse on Schmitz's Life Above All, Daniel & Diego Vega's Octubre and the Ivan Fund & Santiago Loza tandem seemed to have released Los labios nationally prior to what would be an international premiere.

In Depth Look: Un Certain Regard’s Puiu, Nakata, Xiaoshuai, Cianfrance, Kocsis and Hochhausler

When Hideo Nakata was mentioned as a possibility, and then named today, I honestly thought it was a misprint and that they mislabeled the pic - but I think we can elevate our expectation level for Chatroom because of scribe Enda Walsh's participation in the project -- she penned Steve McQueen's debut film which I mentioned above. I predicted a healthy Hungarian presence this year, and Ágnes Kocsis' Adrienn Pál is the first mention for that country.

Updated List: Forecasting The Director’s Fortnight and Critic’s Week Picks

With the Un Certain Regard category pretty much complete, we can now focus our attention on next week's announcements for the sidebar sections of the Director's Fortnight and Critic's Week. I've listed a whopping 26 films and I'm confident that several will show up in the approximate 30 or so feature films with many first-time works that will make up both sections (put together).
