Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist, and critic at IONCINEMA.com, established in 2000. A regular at Sundance, Cannes, and Venice, Eric holds a BFA in film studies from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013, he served on the narrative competition jury at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson’s "This Teacher" (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). He is a Golden Globes Voter, member of the ICS (International Cinephile Society), FIPRESCI and AQCC (Association québécoise des critiques de cinéma).

GKIDS goes ‘West of Pluto’

After showing at Rotterdam, the Seattle Film Festival and the upcoming L.A Film Fest next weekend, Les Films Séville/E1 Entertainment International have announced that GKIDS have picked up the U.S. rights to West of Pluto. GKIDS is the outlet that co-distributed Sita Sings the Blues. The pic should receive a Fall release perhaps under GKIDS' Flicker Lounge label.

Originally Disney had bought the pitch back in 2003 but somehow the project with the long attached Queen Latifah was picked up in turnaround via Fox Searchlight who have a film that they might be looking to have a slam dunk with the African American demo.

Away We Go Again – Focus Makes Pact with Mendes on a Possible Pair

Despite only being in theaters for the past two weeks and having Away We Go rake in just under a million at the BO, Focus Features is thinking long term with Sam Mendes (well at least till 2011) and are hoping to get the filmmaker to take on a pair of period piece projects. Mendes and Neal Street Prods have according to Variety, signed a two-year first-look deal that could see Mendes direct.
