Cinema Guild Prepared to Work into the Wee Hours with ‘Once Upon a Time in Anatolia’

Reminiscent of Corneliu Porumboiu's Police, Adjectiv for its marathon run time (film is easily over the two-hour mark, but doesn't feel like it) and wry sense of humor in what essentially tackles the underlining politics in procedural police work, Ceylan's Grand Prix winner (tied with the Dardennes' Kid With a Bike) has found a home with The Cinema Guild folks and though no immediate plans were made for a 2011 release, expect the ideal locations of TIFF and NYFF to provide settings for the North American and U.S premieres.

Tribeca Film Moves Next Door to ‘Shut Up Little Man: An Audio Misadventure’

After playing extremely well before Sundance Film Festival audiences, someone (Tribeca Films) has finally made the no-brainer picked up of Matthew Bate's docu-tragicomedy Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure. A VOD and theatre August 26th/September expanded release is planned -- I'm betting it'll mimic the viral/cult success that the phenomenon had when it was in its "audio form".

Samuel Goldwyn See Blue and Picks up Stern Look at United Nations

Samuel Goldwyn Films are hoping to stir up the pot during the politico season, picking up Ami Horowitz and Matthew Groff’s UN, Me and setting it for a September release. Like any large-bodied institution, the UN is a governing body where politics have notoriously hindered efforts by often coming late to the party...and by party we mean genocides, huge scale human rights abuses and violations.

Alexandra Cassavetes Sinks Fangs in ‘Kiss of the Damned’

If you don't count TV doc Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession, we can finally say that Xan Cassavetes has joined her sis, her bro and her pops as a feature filmmaker. In fact, Variety reports that her debut film, Kiss of the Damned has already wrapped and had French thesps Josephine de la Baume (bit role in Gavras' Our Day Will Come and soon to be seen in Confession of a Child of the Century) and Roxane Mesquida (Catherine Breillat regular) and Milo Ventimiglia toplining.

Cinema Guild Make Room for ‘The Day He Arrives’

After last week's pick-up of Bela Tarr's Berlin Film Festival winner, The Cinema Guild are pacting with another well-established auteur in Hong Sangsoo. His The Day He Arrives (which looks nothing like the popular trailer) will receive a probable 2011 calendar release.
