Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Matt Piedmont’s Casa de mi padre

This may be Matt Piedmont's directorial debut, but the filmmaker needs to introduction for the millions of folks who've watched his stuff on Funny or Die. Additionally, this year is a break-out year for the filmmaker, Sundance patrons will get to see his pair of Brick Novax shorts. We heart the chemistry in the Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna pairing (this is their third) and they pretty much know how Mexican ‘telenovela’ soaps work as they both come from this world and though he is more often miss than hit, you'll want to compliment your viewing of Everything Must Go with this Will Ferrell perf - knowing his knack for great improv, I think he'll let loose in this one.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Eugene Jarecki’s Reagan

Tea Party movement folk and documentary films fans alike will want to watch out for this portrait on a U.S president whose legacy can unfortunately be felt until this day. From a diligent docu-helmer in Eugene Jarecki (whose track record of The Trials of Henry Kissinger (2002) and Why We Fight (2005) we can expect an all-encompassing, no one side favored viewpoint and something that will surely be timely in 2011.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Philippe Garrel’s That Summer

For the record. I don't care much for Garrel's work and in his lengthy filmography, I've only seen his last three. I do enjoy difficult, French films especially dramas that tackle a strained relationship and told in reverse order. If done right, it picks up the slight changes in the dynamic of the relationship, those cues will be done with very little dialogue in this film.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Wim Wenders’ Pina

Can't say I've cared much for Wenders work, at least not since 99's Buena Vista Social Club and I don't care much for modern dance, but after having seen the trailer I'm starting to think that this is one of the rare times where I'm excited for what 3D can do. Looking at the trailer, this looks like a mixture between Fellini and Greenaway's work, Pina Bausch's modern dance influence is about to receive the ultimate tribute.

Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2011: Mary Harron’s The Moth Diaries

Hard to believe that this is only Mary Harron's fourth film and despite this being a sub-genre that appears to have been overcooked, the filmmaker promises to stick to the novel's strong Gothic element and abide by the girl-on-girl vampire sexuality. My personal wish is that the indie filmmaker behind I Shot Andy Warhol and The Notorious Bettie Page has an American Psycho audience in mind as well. We want blood folks.
