The King’s Speech Leads Golden Globe Noms Plus Jeers and Cheers

The Golden Globes award noms (a.k.a the "friendly" awards) have been unveiled and The King’s Speech leads with seven nominations while The Fighter and The Social Network following close behind with six noms each. The Comedy or Musical categories remind us why the show is more of a popularity contest than anything else, but knowing that we can still have contempt for the whole thing, we'll end up half-watching anyways when it airs next month.

Foolproof plan for Gambit: Hiring Colin Firth

After what is close to a decade of trying to get this remake off the ground, things are looking good for Gambit. Only weeks after signing Michael Hoffman to direct, producers are attempting to lasso the future Oscar nominated Best Actor in Colin Firth (for The King's Speech) which means producers will likely attach a female protag that is somewhat more suave than previously announced actresses (Jennifer Aniston was once mentioned).

Miranda July’s The Future Headed to Sundance

When they announced the titles at the beginning of the month we were shocked in seeing the omission of this Sundance prediction. Logic said that this Match Factory sales title would do a double dip in Park City and Berlin. Well it looks like Miranda July's The Future is indeed headed to Sundance in the Premieres category.

Film in Pictures: Jeff Nichols’ Take Shelter

For the Sundance committee who didn't include his first work in the context of their festival and for the few people who did manage to see Jeff Nichols' debut film Shotgun Stories know that, we're in for something special with his sophomore film. Taking Shelter reteams the director with Michael Shannon, we've got a great batch of good looking stills to mend matters until we get to see the world premiere on the 24th. Feature also showcases Jessica Chastain - who'll get a taste for the fest circuit with Cannes next May for Tree of Life.

Film in Pictures: Jacob Aaron Estes’ The Details

Love how Sundance calls Jacob Aaron Estes' latest: both "a love story and a horror story". What should be a high-profile sales title at the fest this year, we've been talking about The Details since 09' and now we finally have a pair of stills that show us pair that toplines the pic in Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks - they play 10 year-married couple with young child who comes face to face with a lawn terrorist.
