Tribeca dispatch #6

Many documentaries about suicide and suicide-related subjects vary in their aesthetics, Eric Steel’s THE BRIDGE really stands among Tribeca’s other documentary selections. There is something eerie about the doc, the unpleasant sight of seeing people jumping off the bridge brings back thoughts of those who had the same fate with the World Trade Center – except here the debate is about the choice. The other jarring item is that the film contains interviews with the families of the people who committed suicide – reliving the final moments of their loved ones. The filmmaker filmed the bridge from a distance and later contacted the families of the jumpers they filmed. The result is a very unique and strange montage! The interviews with the families are truly outstanding and they avoid any over-dramatization. Made in collaboration with IFC, the film will definitely find its way outside of the Tribeca film festival. Definitely a film to see before you die (pun intended).

Tribeca Photo Diary: Pittsburgh

Jeff Goldblum put his Hollywood actor life on hold to star alongside his new girlfriend in a Pittsburgh regional theater production of The Music Man. Co-directors Bradley and LaBrache tread a surprisingly elegant line between genuine documentary and outright self-parody improv in this deliciously deadpan comedy called Pittsburgh.

Tribeca Photo Diary: Journey to the End of the Night

Journey to the End of the Night is a gritty thriller of betrayal beyond redemption set against the harsh backdrop of a South American city defined by drugs, money, sex, and corruption, Journey to the End of the Night pits a tortured son against his father as they separately develop plans to escape the desolation of their lives through a lurid underworld.

Tribeca Photo Diary: The TV Set

Written by Jake Kasdan, The TV Set centers on Dave (Duchovny), who has a pregnant wife, a spendthrift mom and a lot of expenses. He should be happy that he has just sold a television pilot. But the path to the production includes a tumble down a rabbit hole of dimwitted executives, talentless stars and micro-managing suits who seem determind to remove any hint of creativity out of Dave's work.
