Interview: Pete Ohs – Erupcja (Work in Progress)

Date:

Filmmaker Pete Ohs likely needs no introduction, nor do the notable cast members he assembled for his under-the-radar bilingual drama, shot in Poland. With talents like Jeremy O. Harris, Charli XCX, and Will Madden on board, Erupcja promises to make waves. From what I’ve seen, we can expect comparisons to the works of Linklater and Östlund when the film premieres at a major festival next year. As an American indie filmmaker navigating a completely different ecosystem, it was a pleasure to chat with Ohs in the full-circle setting of Wrocław, where this creative journey began.

While the eco-system remains inherently delicate, the American micro indie film scene thrives, and IONCINEMA.com will highlight this vitality in our comprehensive interview series. We will trace the journey of films through in-depth conversations with the filmmakers and producers responsible for their creation, focusing on the nine projects chosen for the 2024 U.S. in Progress, a part of the American Film Fest in Wrocław. Among the class of ’24 we find Baby Love directed by Joseph Marconi, Bunnylovr directed by Katarina Zhu, By Design directed by Amanda Kramer, Erupcja directed by Pete Ohs, Figments of Freedom directed by Mark Webber, Lockjaw directed by Sabrina Greco, Lucas and Iris directed by Keith Miller, The Scout directed by Paula González-Nasser and Under the Lights directed by Miles Levin.
