2019 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: #7. Jackie Olive – Always in Season (Docu)

Working on the PBS documentary series Independent Lens for three seasons, Jackie Olive has worked immersive media production prior to moving into her docu feature debut. Always in Season has received artist grants from the Tribeca Film Fund, Chicken & Egg Picture, Independent Television Service, International Documentary Association, Firelight Media, Catapult Film Fund and Sundance Institutes’ Documentary Fund Grants, Documentary Edit & Story Lab, and the Film Music and Sound Design Lab, it appears this is prepped for a 2019 festival premiere.

Gist: When 17-year-old Lennon Lacy is found hanging from a swing set in rural North Carolina in 2014, his mother’s search for justice and reconciliation begins while the trauma of more than a century of lynching African Americans bleeds into the present.

Eric Lavallée is the founder, CEO, editor-in-chief, film journalist and critic at IONCINEMA.com (founded in 2000). Eric is a regular at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. He has a BFA in Film Studies at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema. In 2013 he served as a Narrative Competition Jury Member at the SXSW Film Festival. He was an associate producer on Mark Jackson's This Teacher (2018 LA Film Festival, 2018 BFI London). In 2022 he served as a New Flesh Comp for Best First Feature at the 2022 Fantasia Intl. Film Festival. Current top films for 2022 include Tár (Todd Field), All That Breathes (Shaunak Sen), Aftersun (Charlotte Wells).
