Top 100 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2018: #54. Eva Sørhaug’s Sunny

Date:

Sunny

Norway’s Eva Sørhaug switches things up a bit with her third feature, Sunny, her English language debut which is set to star Sharon Stone as drug king-pin in what’s being described as a dark comedy. Sørhaug’s previous two films, 2008’s Cold Lunch and 2012’s 90 Minutes, are characterized by extreme bits of violence in their offbeat narratives. Previously, Sørhaug had been developing a film about real-life drug moll Griselda Blanco with Catherine Zeta-Jones, which eventually switched hands and is now a made-for-television product. Sunny sounds like something a bit more idiosyncratic for Sørhaug.

Release Date/Prediction: With the project and Stone’s attachment only just revealed at the 2017 edition of AFM, we predict Sunny to be ready for the fourth quarter of 2018 where it will potentially be a dual player at Venice in Toronto, or compete in either Italy or TIFF’s Platform program.
