Top 150 Most Anticipated Foreign Films of 2020: #88. Lisa Redler – Nicole Garcia

Date:

Lisa Redler

Nicole Garcia returned to work with producers David Thion and Philippe Martin for Les Films Pelleas (who produced her 2013 title Going Away / Un beau dimanche) on Lisa Redler – which was co-produced by France 3 Cinema. Garcia returns to work with DP Christophe Beaucarne and the film’s three main headliners are Pierre Niney, Stacy Martin and Benoit Magimel. Garcia worked as an actress with auteurs such as Bertrand Blier and Alain Resnais in the 70s. Kicking off a directorial career in the 1990s, she competed in Karlovy Vary with 1994’s The Favorite Son and then Venice with her Catherine Deneuve headlined Place Vendome in 1998 (which nabbed Debut the Volpi Cup for Best Actress). Her 1986 short “August 15” premiered at Cannes and she would go on to compete for the Palme d’Or three times (The Adversary, 2002; Charlie Says, 2006; From the Land of the Moon, 2016).

Gist: Scripted by Garcia and her regular co-writer Jacques Fieschi, their latest concerns Lisa and Simon, a young couple in love. Lisa, who attends hotel management school in modern-day Paris, has invested more in the relationship, and finds herself suddenly alone when Simon absconds following an evening leading to circumstances which put him in danger. Several years pass and she hears no word from Simon until their paths across again on the Indian Ocean.

Release Date/Prediction: Garcia began filming Lisa Redler in late January of 2019. Her post-production period suggests Garcia could bow in Berlin 2020, where she’d be programmed for the first time.
