Electric Child

For his third feature film, Swiss filmmaker Simon Jaquemet moves into English language terrain with what is coined as an arthouse take on a sci-fi computer thriller, revolving around A.I. and parenthood. Production on Electric Child took place in Switzerland, Germany and the Philippines and began in October of ’22. Jaquemet saw his debut film War (2014) premiere at San Sebastián, Berlin and Locarno, while his sophomore feature The Innocent competed (2018) at TIFF, San Sebastián and Rotterdam. Among the projects included at the Gap-Financing Market Electric Child could be timed for a Lido launch. This is produced by Michela Pini.

Gist: This is about a couple whose child develops an unusual illness. While the mother and baby drift into their own world, the computer-science professor father develops a pact with an A.I. character on a virtual island to save his child.

Release Date/Prediction: Jaquemet could make a first trip to the Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section followed by Toronto and the third trip to San Sebastián.
