Top 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2013: #63. George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road

Date:

Mad Max: Fury Road

Director: George Miller
Writer(s): Miller, Nick Lathouris and Brendan McCarthy
Producer(s): Doug Mitchell, P.J. Voeten
U.S. Distributor: Warner Bros. Pictures
Cast: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough

I didn’t care for the trilogy’s third installment (my sole viewing of it was when it was theatrically released) and nor do I care much for what George Miller is bringing to the plate in terms of direction, I’m simply hopeful that after two decades, this reunion with the apocalyptic setting and it’s key player proves to be more fierce and a hell of a lot better than when Star Wars and Indiana Jones were rebooted. The heavy burden rests on what actor Tom Hardy delivers.

Gist: Mad Max (Hardy) is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa (Theron). This movie is an account of the Road War which follows. It is based on the Word Burgers of the History Men and eyewitness accounts of those who survived.

Release Date: The first “appearance” should be at San Diego’s Comic-Con, but seeing that this is a massive tentpole studio pic and that filming just ended, the logical thinking is…see you in 2014. We’re just hoping WB looks at this as a potential Xmas stocking stuffer instead – as of right now, this is ideal counter-programming type film with not much competition to fear in December.
