Top 200 Most Anticipated Films for 2014: #44. Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher

Date:

Foxcatcher

Director: Bennett Miller
Writers: Dan Futterman and E. Max Frye
Producers: Miller, Likely Story’s Anthony Bregman, Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison, Jon Kilik
U.S. Distributor: Sony Pictures Classics
Cast: Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Michael Hall, Vanessa Redgrave, Tara Subkoff

Slotted at the #24 slot on last year’s list, word is that the team needed more time fine-tuning this, or the decision was made easier with films such as American Hustle in the way. Bennett Miller ranks among the better dramatic directors in Hollywood; this 2008 Blacklist named project should be of the same caliber as Miller’s Capote and Moneyball.

Gist: Based on the true story of John du Pont, a paranoid schizophrenic who was heir to the du Pont fortune. After building a wrestling training facility named Team Foxcatcher on his Pennsylvania estate, Du Pont shot and killed Olympic gold medal-winning grappler David Schulz.

Release Date: Skipping a 2013 playdate (December 20th), this could be placed at any juncture during the 2014 campaign. Expect a film festival premiere as well.
