Sebastian Silva Sets Sail on “Captain Dad” with Will Ferrell, Catherine Keener & Michael Cera

Date:

Moving from quirky micro dark comedies to bigger budgeted quirky dark comedies, Variety reports that Sebastian Silva will begin 7th feature film on a family thriller with Will Ferrell in current negotiations to star alongside Catherine Keener and Silva muse Michael Cera. Captain Dad will be produced by Archer Gray’s Anne Carey and Archer Gray (20th Century Women) and executive produced by Killer Films’ Christine Vachon.

Gist: This sees Rich Peelman (Ferrell) take his wife (Keener) on a trip through the Caribbean on a sail boat for her birthday with all six of their kids and partners in tow. When things don’t go according to plan and Rich’s subpar sailing abilities and clashes of attitude with the rest of the family are brought into question, the trip soon becomes a less-than-idyllic one.

Worth Noting: In between features, Silva immersed himself in the short format with the recently premiered online (Dolfun), and a short in the omnibus Madly.

Do We Care?: One of the best film items to break out in 2015, the under the radar Nasty Baby reminded us of Silva’s immense, difficult to summarize sense of humor, his appreciation for malaise and unconventional approach to film narratives. This will certainly mentioned in the same breathe as Matt Ross’ Captain Fantastic – family of six, but comparatives certainly end there.
