Rachel Getting Unmarried: Patrick Brice Makes Cecily Strong a “Plus One”

Date:

A project that has surely and steadily building steam, now filled key the wing-girl role and has landed its director. Originally set up with the Weinsteins, produced by Gloria Sanchez Productions’ Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, Deadline reports that Patrick Brice will direct and Cecily Strong (there was talk of Amy Schumer looking at the role) will play alongside Jessica Chastain in Plus One.

Gist: Written by April Prosser, this is about a single woman (Chastain) who emerges from a long-term relationship only to realize all her friends have married off and there’s no one single left to go out with except Summer (Strong), the loud, sexually-oversharing wild card who is now Rachel’s only option for a wing woman.

Worth Noting: Prosser saw her screenplay for “The One That Got Away” make it onto the 2012 Black List and had Amazon Studios looking to produce.

Do We Care?: From an casting standpoint, this’ll be a major role chance for Strong to showcase her skillset and it’ll be equally entertaining in seeing how Chastain finally practices her comedic abilities. The type of project that could easily find a major studio swoop in for the rights, on paper this apparently rocks and judging by how Brice brought out some of the best pairings in highly likeable adulthood character study in The Overnight, this female-centric comedy will likely come across as anything but faux.
