Teacher’s Pet; Stacy Martin Joins “The Childhood of a Leader”

After having worked in a supporting player capacity in Melancholia, Brady Corbet has turned to Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac for some creative persuasion in terms of casting some supporting players of his own. While there was a mention of this as of last week via the blogsphere, Screen Daily are the first to confirm the news that Stacy Martin will indeed star in The Childhood of a Leader — she will a French teacher to the film’s child protagonist which has yet to be revealed. The trade also reports that production has been pushed into the new year (January), but the biggest piece of news is that the legendary Scott Walker is composing an original soundtrack for the film.

Gist: Co-written by Mona Fastvold (The Sleepwalker) and Corbet, this is a chilling fable about the rise of fascism in the 20th Century tells the story of a young American boy living in France in 1918 whose father (Tim Roth) is working for the US government on the creation of the Treaty of Versailles. What he witnesses helps to mould his beliefs – and we witness the birth of a terrifying ego.

Worth Noting: Martin has been hard at work padding her auteur-driven resume with roles in films from Ben Wheatley (High-Rise), Matteo Garrone (The Tale of Tales) and Heidi Greensmith’s debut titled, Winter.

Do We Care? We knew that Corbet was an astute cinephile, but we’re further more impressed by his taste bud: the film’s musical identity is promising to say the least. This is easily among our most anticipated foreign films of 2015.
