Post The Lunchbox fame (his well traveled Film Fest favorite which was also shown at Sundance in 2014), Ritesh Batra hit a creative cluster mark with Our Souls at Night (starring Robert Redford), The Sense of an Ending (read review) and the soon to be released Photograph. The Hindi language film (with a smidgen of English) in several Mumbai locales romantic drama stars nouveau actress Sanya Malhotra and Lunchbox alumni Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It went into production in October of 2017, and with his pending Little Bee (Julia Roberts) currently in pre-production, we’ll perhaps see 2019 play out like 2017, with not one, but two Batra films in release. The filmmaker previously took part of the Sundance Writers and Directors labs and landed Sundance Film Institute’s support with the Time Warner Storytelling Fellow and Annenberg Fellow in the recent past.
