2021 Cannes Critics’ Panel: Day 10 – Nabil Ayouch’s Casablanca Beats

Among the surprise selections for the Cannes Competition line-up, Nabil Ayouch’s Casablanca Beats (known in French as Haut et fort), and before that it two others trips to the fest consisted of 2012’s Horses of God (Les Chevaux de Dieu) – an Un Certain Regard selection and he co-wrote Maryam Touzani’s Adam (2019). This Moroccan film entry looks at a group of youths who are into hip-hop as if their lives depended on it.

Premiering late last night, our critics were rather lukewarm to the film with a current 2.7 average grade.
