Maria Monge’s Treat Me Like Fire (Joueurs) | 2018 Cannes Film Festival

Published on

Where Maria Monge‘s Treat Me Like Fire excels is in abiding by a frenetic fuelled street film that is more steeped in fantasy, than reality. The French title of Joueurs actually translates into the accurate and assertive double definition word “players” – which states rapport between gambling and the tempting fate or and the relationship between the cartoonish characters of Stacy Martin and Tahar Rahim. A directorial debut for Monge, the Lady and the Trump pairing atmospherically recalls of misfits and mood in Safdie Bros.’ Good Time. We were on hand for the world premiere screening in the morning at the Directors’ Fortnight.
