Top 20 Alternative Picks for Cannes 2013: Mohammad Rasoulof’s Anonymous

Date:

Anonymous – Mohammad Rasoulof

Section: Un Certain Regard

Buzz: Mohammad Rasoulof, one of the three Iranian filmmakers famously arrested in 2010, is set to cause more waves with this latest film, reportedly shot in secret and smuggled out of Iran. While details are kept under wraps, one could assume the content will most likely anger the authorities back home, perhaps seeing the director move farther away from the purposefully obtuse metaphors (The White Meadows, 2009), and bluntly dealing with Iran’s oppressive political regime in the vein of 2011’s Goodbye.

The Gist: While details are currently unavailable as far as the gist of Anonymous, it’s current title perhaps carries with it a solemn irony.
