Pearce and Pattinson in Pursuit of David Michod’s “The Rover”

Date:

Looks as if we’re in a 48 hour Robert Pattinson news cycle. After the trades mentioned the actor was attached to Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire’s Mission: Blacklist and that EOne grabbed North American Rights to Cosmopolis, now comes word from Deadline.com that the actor, along with Guy Pearce, will rough it out in David Michôd’s long-waited sophomore film, The Rover. Tory Metzger and David Linde’s new shingle, Lava Bear are producing the film with Porchlight Films’ Liz Watts. Shooting is expected to take place in the fall. This will be high up on our most anticipated for 2013.

Gist: Scripted by Michod and based on an idea from fellow Blue Tongue films’ member Joel Edgerton, this is set in the near future, as one man named Reynolds (Pattinson) embarks on a relentless pursuit of the men who stole his car through the wild and rough Australian outback.

Worth Noting: This marks a second collaboration with Pearce and Michod and we can only imagine that this might be a larger role for the actor from what we saw in Animal Kingdom. Expect such alumni as Sullivan Stapleton, Luke Ford, Ben Mendelsohn, Kieran Darcy-Smith and definitely Edgerton to potentially grab supporting roles in the film as well.

Do We Care?: Seeing that Michôd probably entertained hundreds of offers, we think we might have a future Drive-like film on our hands? Animal Kingdom was a rock-solid debut, we expect this potential chase film to be a thinking man’s guy flick.
