Retro Almodovar: Cecilia Roth and Lola Duenas Join “The Brief Lovers”

Date:

Along with the first names (Jose Maria Yazpik and Javier Camara) attached to The Brief Lovers (Los amantes pasajeros), Spanish sources are reporting that Pedro Almodovar will reunite with Cecilia Roth (All About My Mother) and Lola Dueñas (Volver), while enlarging the family to include Carlos Areces (made famous by, Álex de la Iglesia’s The Last Circus) and Raul Arevalo (from Icíar Bollaín’s Even the Rain fame). In a throwback to the types of ensemble films he was making in the 80’s (think the pre-Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown era), production is expected to begin in June and currently the player are in the rehearsal stages.

Gist:: This is an ensemble comedy about a group of people on the brink of an impending disaster.

Worth Noting: Roth and Almodovar first worked together on the 1980 comedy, “Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls Like Mom”.

Do We Care?: Look for this to be high up on our 2013 Cannes list. In the mean time, we’ll have the op to seek out some of his more obscure earlier works. Look for more casting bits in the coming weeks leading up to international sales friendly Cannes.
