Concert Films: A New Multiplex Trend?

Pair of concert tickets for Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus concert bought off a scalper………..1000.00
Concert t-shirt, concession stand goods, parking and gas……………………………………………120.00
Hoping that your tween will love you and be happy………………………………………………….Priceless.

This weekend’s box office phenomena (Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both
Worlds Concert Tour
) and a pair of early 2008
titles (Shine a Light and U2 3D) is telling us two things: the concert documentary film is a bankable method to profit from and it is a new manner that extends the concert experience for hardcore fans. For those who aren’t lucky enough to see Bono strut his stuff or for those who can’t waste a month’s salary on Stones tickets, this new alternative is especially attractive. A typical tour in North America counts about 40 to 50 cities – fans stretched out across Canada and the U.S typically have to fight for a sold-out ticket and second, travel to the venue: a costly equation. A theatrical release with heightened visual and sound quality and better technology is “making watching a concert on film” a worthy detour. Are studios continue to continue the trend? Time will tell.
