Dano Joins Indie Project ‘For Ellen’ and for So Yong Kim

Not sure if it was his fatherly touch in Matt Aselton’s Gigantic that helped nab him this role, but indie veteran thesp Paul Dano is, according to Production Weekly, top-lining So Yong Kim’s third feature film titled For Ellen. Having Dano onboard will be a first for Yong Kim, as she is known for having employed non-actors in her previous two, the little seen In Between Days and Treeless Mountain (which was distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories earlier this year).

The drama sees Dano, play an aspiring young rock musician who agrees to sign divorce papers with his estranged wife, but then discovers he is not ready to forfeit all custody of his six-year-old daughter.

Filming will begin this coming February in Upstate New York. Yong Kim’s hubby, Bradley Rust Gray will most likely be producing the pic, which means that once this is in the can and ready for the fall film festival circuit, then the roles will get switched for Gray to shoot Jack and Diane.

Taking a second look at this Reverse Shot Talkie, I’m thinking that for with Yong Kim, life imitates art or more precisely, is the inspiration for some of her narrative ideas.
