This Brit debut promises to hit you where it hurts. Based on Sam Taylor’s novel The Republic of Trees, this centres on Dara and Eoin, two young Irish children of 11 and 12, who have to go and live at their aunt’s house in France, following their mother’s suicide.
Everything Will Be Fine – Christoffer Boe
The film received a national release earlier in the year (see pic) – to get an eyeful take a look at the trailer. or click here for the Vertigo-esque poster.
Año bisiesto – Michael Rowe
Rowe’s debut film (which was mentioned by Screen Daily) and from the description only sounds like a film that we could add to the film wave of Mexican films that include violence in its discourse. This fetures Laura, who lives deep in the melancholy of her troubled past in Oaxaca. Her solitary days pass until she decides to end it all. Laura meets Arturo who that will help her finish off the pain of her existence.
Benda Bilili! – Renaud Barret & Florent de la Tullaye
This is a French documentary debut.
La Casa muda (The Silent House) – Gustavo Hernandez
Not the first time that this section has seen the make-up of an entire film be one continuous shot, but what is worth noting is that the camera is an actual camera and not some video recording device. Here’s the trailer to Gustavo Hernandez’s debut film.
