Eye Candy: Craig Gillespie

Craig Gillespie’s Lars and the Real Girl (a superb film I caught in Toronto last month) gets released in theaters today. But who is this new director? Some of you might know him as the director of last month’s Mr. Woodcock
a comedy that he has probably disowned. But many of you out there are already familiar with his work.

Craig Gillespie's director's hand and brand of humor is visible in the 100's of commercials he has done – many of them award winning. Over the years he has worked in the top NYC advertising agencies – he won a Silver Pencil for his work on Burger King and a Silver Lion at the Cannes International Advertising Festival for his work on Pepsi at BBDO. After his career as an agency art director, he soon concentrated on commercials with Citibank, Chevy, Budweiser (“Whassup?!”), Holiday Inn Express, Honda and SBC Communications have earned Gillespie America’s highest advertising honors (two One Show Gold’s and a One Show Silver) as well as some of America’s most prestigious commercial accolades, including recognition by the AICP for his Citibank “Delivery Room” commercial for Best Talent/Performance.

This week's EYE CANDY looks at a Smirnoff commercial he did. Enjoy!
