We knew it wouldn’t be long before Film Movement made their first pick-up from this year’s Berlin – and they’ve turned southwards once again, picking up a debut feature film from Columbia that played at the film festival’s Forum section. Gabriel Rojas Vera’s Karen Cries on the Bus will be released sometime this summer.
Gist: Karen has left her slimy but successful husband Mario after ten years of marriage. She needs a fresh start to find out who she is and who she could be, despite her husband’s proclamation that she can do absolutely nothing. She walks out into Bogatá with no job, no friends, and hardly any money, but catches a break when she meets a hairdresser named Patricia at a cheap flophouse. With her younger and seemingly stronger friend by her side, Karen takes her first steps towards independence and self-discovery.
Worth Noting: Other titles from Columbia that Film Movement have distributed include: The Wind Journey and The Colors of the Mountain.
Do We Care?: As is the case for most items coming out of the Berlin Film Fest, we’ll take a wait and see approach with this title.
