Fitzgerald re-teams with Dukakis for Cloudburst

Not sure if Sidney Kimmel Ent. is tapping into a new market demo. While they’re setting up Jon Amiel’s distinctly golden aged Old Timers, the prod co. are boarding a road trip film with vet actresses Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker. Reteaming with Dukakis with whom he worked with on his last picture 3 Needles, Thom Fitzgerald shoots Cloudburst this month and in his own backyard again – if there is a film industry in the miniscule Canadian province of Nova Scotia it might be because of this filmmaker.

Based on Fitzgerald’s screenplay, this story tackles both ageism and same sex marriage. It follows two women who have been lovers for 30 years but have to escape a nursing facility to get married in Canada. They pick up a young male hitchhiker who sidetracks them. For those who have forgotten about Dukakis – she most recently played a strong supporting role in Sarah Polley‘s debut film Away From Her. Doug Pettigrew (who produced Fitzgerald’s Television project The Gospel According to the Blues) produces and William Jarblum is the executive producer.
