With across the board poor ratings from the critics (dozen or so polled in Le Film Francais) who saw the film at Cannes, if there is a reason why IFC Films have gone and picked up Marina de Van‘s out of competition psychodrama, it is because of the silver screen vixen pairing of Sophie Marceau and Monica Bellucci in doppelganger mode. I’m guessing that Ne te retourne pas (Don’t Look Back) will probably go the VOD route.
Written by Marina de Van and Jacques Akchoti, this delves into the weird and wonderful, in particular the theme of double identity. Jeanne (Marceau), a married mother of two, realises that her body is changing and nobody notices but her. Despite being surrounded by people who make what’s happening seem less important as she thinks, Jeanne is convinced that something important is going on.
Bellucci is currently filming Jon Turteltaub‘s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and will next headline Bruce Beresford‘s Get It at Goode’s. Here are Don’t Look Back’s pair of trailers.
