Lone Scherfig Would Like to ‘One Day’ Work in the U.S.

Date:

If you take a quick look at the stable of world filmmakers that the folks at Focus Features have worked with just this past year and next, you’d think they’re one of those successful sports franchises, drafting talented “players” or in this case, helmers for the projects they develop. In less than 24 hours, they’ve nabbed Brit Steve McQueen for “Fela”, and they’ve now got their sights on Dane Lone Scherfig who has been on cloud nine this year with An Education. In what would be her transition project to a filmmaking career in the States, THR reports that she is being circled to direct One Day, a romantic comedy to be produced by Color Force’s Nina Jacobson (upcoming Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Random House Films.

By the looks of the project, we can expect music cues, television news flashes and bad fashion statements in a pic that’ll need a pair of romantic leads. Based on a novel by British author David Nicholls, “Day” revolves around Dexter and Emma, who meet for the first time during their graduation in 1988 and proceed to meet one day a year for the next 20 years. In “When Harry Met Sally …” fashion, the story tracks their lives and loves until they realize they were meant for each other.

Scherfig has sort of already worked on a reunion film before with Italian for Beginners, her contribution to the Dogme movement which is still producing films to this day.
